Water-pollinated flower - Suibaiika

A flower in which pollen is carried to the stigma of the pistil by water and pollinated. Found in aquatic plants, there are those that pollinate underwater and those that pollinate above water. The former include those in which thread-like pollen floats in seawater, entangles the stigma and pollinates, such as in Ebiamamo, and those in which the female flowers are at the bottom of the water and the pollen sinks to pollinate. On the other hand, the latter include those in which submerged male flowers, such as Vallisneria, break off and float to the surface when they bloom, and then drift to the floating female flowers and pollinate them.

水によって花粉が雌しべの柱頭に運ばれて受粉する花をいう。水生植物にみられるもので、水中で受粉するものと、水上で受粉するものとがある。前者には、エビアマモのように糸状の花粉が海水中を漂い、柱頭に絡まって受粉する型や、イバラモのように雌花が水底にあり、花粉が沈んでいって受粉する型がある。一方、後者には、セキショウモのように沈水性の雄花が開花すると、ちぎれて水面に浮かび、浮水性の雌花のところに流れ着いて受粉するものなどがある。
