〘Noun〙 A type of Chinese character pronunciation. Generally known as Tang pronunciation or Tang-Song pronunciation. This refers particularly to the pronunciation of Chinese characters from the Song and Yuan dynasties that was transmitted from the mid-Heian period through the Kamakura period. It was mainly transmitted by Zen monks, and is often used in words related to Zen Buddhism.
