Mt. Mizuguchi

Japanese: 水口山 - すいこうざん

China's largest lead, zinc, and silver mine, located 35 km northeast of Changning County in southern Hunan Province, China. A contact metasomatic deposit formed at the contact point between upper Palaeozoic limestone and biotite granite, the deposit contains ore bodies of galena with pyrite and chalcopyrite in a skarn zone of argentite and garnet. Silver is contained in the galena. Mining at Shuikou Mountain began in the Ming dynasty, but in 1897 (the 23rd year of the Guangxu era), development began in earnest under the promotion of development by Chen Baojin (1831-1900), governor of Hunan. Later, foreign capital was invested and modern mining methods were used.

中国，湖南省南部，常寧県の北東35kmにある中国最大の鉛･亜鉛･銀の鉱山。上部古生層の石灰岩と黒雲母花コウ岩との接触部に形成された接触交代鉱床で，灰鉄輝石，ザクロ石から成るスカルン帯の中に，黄銅鉱，黄鉄鉱を伴うセン亜鉛鉱，方鉛鉱の鉱体が存在する。銀は方鉛鉱に含まれる。　水口山の採掘は明代に始まるが，1897年(光緒23)，湖南巡撫の陳宝箴(1831‐1900)が開発を推進して本格化した。その後，外国資本がはいって近代的方法による採掘がはかられた。
