A village in Yoshida County in northern Fukui Prefecture. Population 3,654 (1995). Located on the south bank of the midstream of the Kuzuryu River, the village's plains are made up of the alluvial lowlands of the Kuzuryu River and a small alluvial fan formed by four tributaries flowing north. Located on the Katsuyama Highway, which connects the Fukui Plain in the west with the Ono Basin in the east, the village developed as a post town, with a ferry crossing over the Kuzuryu River at Kobunato on the northeastern edge. The village's name comes from the fact that this area was called Shibiso in ancient times. Most of the village area is covered by forests where cedars and pine trees grow well, and along with agriculture, mainly rice farming, the village's main industry is agriculture.
