People's Charter - Jinmin Kensho

Japanese:
People's Charter - Jinmin Kensho
A platform for parliamentary reform proposed by middle-class and working-class people in Britain who were dissatisfied with the 1832 electoral reform. It was drafted by W. Lovett, a leader of the London Working Men's Association, and published in 1838. The Chartist movement developed afterwards, hoping to realize this charter. The demands were (1) universal suffrage for adult males over 21 years of age, (2) the abolition of property restrictions for members of parliament, (3) annual elections to parliament, (4) equal distribution of electoral districts based on the number of voters, (5) payment of annual salaries to members of parliament, and (6) secret ballots. The Chartists collected signatures and petitioned Parliament for the charter three times from 1839 onwards, but none of the petitions were taken up, and the movement disbanded in 1848. However, all six of the charter's demands were realized by the first half of the 20th century.
