Japanese: 新南陽[市] - しんなんよう

An old city in central Yamaguchi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1970. The main area faces the Suo-Nada Sea and is surrounded by the former Tokuyama City, with an exclave in the north. Large steel and petrochemical factories are located in the reclaimed waterfront area. It forms the western part of the Tokuyama Petrochemical Complex. The Sanyo Main Line runs through it. In April 2003, it merged with Tokuyama City, Kumage Town, Kumage District, and Shikano Town, Tsuno District to form Shunan City. 64.20 ^km2 . Population: 32,151 (2000).

山口県中部の旧市。1970年市制。主部は周防灘(すおうなだ)に面し，旧徳山市に囲まれ，北部に飛地があった。干拓地である臨海部を中心に製鋼，石油化学などの大工場が立地する。徳山石油化学コンビナートの西部を形成する。山陽本線が通じる。2003年４月，徳山市，熊毛郡熊毛町，都濃郡鹿野町と合併して周南市となる。64.20km²。３万2151人（2000）。
