A person who gives a speech. *German Diary (Mori Ogai), January 29, 1886 (Meiji 19): "In response to an invitation from the Geographical Society, I gave a speech on Japanese houses. I was the only performer this evening." 2. A person who performs on stage, in films, on television, etc. A performer. *Reading Wanderings (1933), (Uchida Roan), "Looking from the window" "So-called radio plays (abbreviated) are probably due to the performers being actresses or half-professionals and lacking in technique."
