One of the early modern South German trading companies. It was founded around 1380 in Ravensburg, a city on Lake Constance, by the union of three merchant families. Originally engaged in the linen textile trade, it gradually expanded into various other trades, and by the end of the 15th century had grown into a large company with assets of 132,000 gold guilders. It also had a wide network of branches, including Switzerland, Italy, Spain, France, and the Netherlands, and was called the "big German company" by Italians and Spaniards. It did not expand much into finance or mining, which differed from the large South German capitals of the Fuggers and Welsers. It lost influence over time, and was dissolved in 1530.
