Born in 1614. Adopted by the shogunate vassal Kaji. Served the third shogun, Tokugawa Iemitsu. After Iemitsu's death, he went to Nikko on the orders of the fourth shogun, Ietsuna, to look after Iemitsu's mausoleum. Died on May 14, 1608, at the age of 87. His real surname was Suganuma.
