1507‐36 Anne was the second queen of King Henry VIII of England. She was the second daughter of Thomas Boleyn (later Earl of Ormonde, Wiltshire). She stayed in France with her sister and became a lady-in-waiting to the French queen. In 1522, she returned to England and served at the English court. Although her sister Mary was already Henry VIII's mistress, Anne also gained the king's favor, which led to the divorce of the king and his wife, Catherine of Aragon. Anne secretly married the king in January 1533, and in May, Archbishop Cranmer declared the marriage legal. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
