Dong Hitsubu

Chinese politician. Born in Hubei Province. Joined the China Tongminghui while studying at Hosei College in Japan, participated in the Wuchang Uprising during the Xinhai Revolution, and participated in the founding of the Communist Party in 1921 as a representative of Hubei Province. After the split between the Kuomintang and Communist Party, he studied in the Soviet Union from 1928, and after returning to China in 1932, engaged in educational work at the Jiangxi Soviet. He participated in the Long March, and during the second Kuomintang-Communist cooperation period, he was stationed in Wuhan and Chongqing with Zhou Enlai as a representative of the Chinese Communist Party. He participated in the San Francisco Peace Conference in April 1945 as a representative of the Chinese Communist Party. After the war, during the civil war, he was the chairman of the North China People's Government in 1948. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he held important positions such as vice president of the state, member of the Communist Party Central Committee, and representative of the National People's Congress, and was re-elected as acting president in 1972 and a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China in 1975.

中国の政治家。湖北省の生まれ。日本の法政専門学校留学中に中国同盟会に加盟、辛亥(しんがい)革命では武昌蜂起(ぶしょうほうき)に参加、1921年の共産党の創立に湖北省代表として参加した。国共分裂後の1928年からソ連に留学、1932年帰国後は江西ソビエトで教育工作に従事。長征に参加して、第二次国共合作期には中国共産党代表として周恩来らと武漢・重慶(じゅうけい)に駐在した。1945年4月のサンフランシスコ講和会議には中共を代表して参加。戦後の内戦期の1948年華北人民政府主席。新中国成立とともに国家副主席、共産党中央委員、全国人民代表大会代表など要職を歴任、1972年国家主席代理、1975年中国共産党政治局常務委員に再選された。
