This religious corporation regards Ise Shrine as its principal sect and includes approximately 80,000 shrines enshrined throughout Japan. It is located in Yoyogi, Shibuya Ward, Tokyo. The local Shinto organization, the Jinjacho, is located in all 47 prefectures. On December 15, 1945 (Showa 20), the occupying forces issued a Shinto Directive, which meant that all shrines in the country were to be removed from state control. The Koten Kokyusho, Dai Nippon Jingikai, and Jingu Hosaikai, which were private shrine-related organizations at the time, discussed how to respond, and the Jingu Hosaikai was established the following year on February 3, 1946, with these three organizations as its parent organization. The Association respects Japanese traditions, promotes rituals and uplifts morals, prays for the long life and prosperity of the Emperor, and aims to contribute to world peace. It carries out the following activities: proclaiming Shrine Shinto, carrying out rituals, educating and training Shrine Shinto adherents, offering prayers at shrines and distributing Jingu Taima, training Shinto priests (Shinto studies at Kokugakuin University and Kogakuin University) and appointing and dismissing them, publishing and distributing books, magazines (Monthly Wakaki) and newspapers (Weekly Jinja Shimpo), and carrying out other tasks necessary to promote the prosperity of shrines and to encompass shrines and shrines. In May 1956, it proclaimed the "Principles for a Life of Respect for the Gods" as a practical guideline for Shinto priests, and on May 21, 1980, it passed the "Charter of the Association of Shinto Shrines." There are 78,954 shrines, 47 other facilities, 21,690 teachers, and 81,818,737 believers (Religious Yearbook, 2014 edition).
