LiOH (23.95). The monohydrate is obtained from aqueous solution by reaction of lithium carbonate with calcium hydroxide. The anhydrous form is obtained by dehydration with diphosphorus pentoxide in a vacuum. The anhydrous form is a white solid. Density 1.46 g cm -3 . Melting point 450 °C. Decomposes at 924 °C to Li 2 O. Absorbs carbon dioxide. It is hygroscopic, soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol. Its aqueous solution is strongly alkaline. The monohydrate is a colorless monoclinic crystal. Density 1.51 g cm -3 . Soluble in water, insoluble in ether.
