White Flag Rebellion

Japanese:
White Flag Rebellion

An uprising by local lords in the eastern provinces during the Northern and Southern Courts and the early Muromachi period. It is believed that local lords from Kozuke Province, such as the Beppu, Kuge, Shioya, Koma, and Narita clans, as well as clans descended from the Musashi Seven Clans, were also members of the uprising. The uprising was based on clan ties, and was essentially the same as the parties of the Kamakura period. Other similar uprisings include the Hei Uprising in southern Musashi and the Toshi Uprising in Kozuke. From the end of the 14th century to the beginning of the 15th century, the people of the eastern provinces began to weaken their ethnic ties and seek regional solidarity, leading to uprisings on a national level such as the Bushu Uprising and the Joshu Uprising.
