Nakkirar (English spelling)

Japanese: ナッキーラル（英語表記）Nakkīrar

A representative poet of ancient Tamil (South India). Date of birth and death unknown. Author of several lyric poems, including "Nedunaruvadai (The Pleasant North Wind)," which is included in classical Sangam literature (1st to 3rd centuries). He is also said to have written "Tirumurugaturupadai (An Invitation to Lord Murugan)," the oldest Tamil religious work that tells the travels of the Dravidian god Murugan. Incidentally, the author of a religious poem in the 11th chapter of "Tirumurai," the holy book of South Indian Shaivism, who lived around the 8th century, is also known as Nakkiral.

古代タミル(南インド)の代表的詩人。生没年不詳。古典サンガム文学(1～3世紀)におさめられた《ネドゥナルバーダイ(快く流れ来る北風)》ほかいくつかの抒情詩の作者。ドラビダの神ムルガンの遍歴を語るタミル最古の宗教文学《ティルムルガーットゥルパダイ(ムルガン神への誘い)》も，彼の作とされる。なお，8世紀ごろの人で，南インド･シバ教の聖典《ティルムライ》第11章におさめられた宗教詩編の作者もナッキーラルの名で知られる。
