A representative poet of ancient Tamil (South India). Date of birth and death unknown. Author of several lyric poems, including "Nedunaruvadai (The Pleasant North Wind)," which is included in classical Sangam literature (1st to 3rd centuries). He is also said to have written "Tirumurugaturupadai (An Invitation to Lord Murugan)," the oldest Tamil religious work that tells the travels of the Dravidian god Murugan. Incidentally, the author of a religious poem in the 11th chapter of "Tirumurai," the holy book of South Indian Shaivism, who lived around the 8th century, is also known as Nakkiral.
