Also known as referred pain or projected pain, this is the phenomenon in which pain is felt in a certain part of the skin in the case of a visceral disease. For example, pain originating from the heart is felt from the chest wall to the underside of the upper limbs, and the pain of a urinary stone is felt in the groin. Referred pain, studied by British neurologist H. Head (1861-1940), is widely used in diagnosis as the head's band. It is said to occur when stimuli from the internal organs reach sympathetic nerve cells via visceral sensory fibers, causing the sensory fibers in the body wall to become sensitive.

連関痛，投射痛ともいう。内臓疾患の場合に一定部位の皮膚に痛みを感じる現象をいう。たとえば，心臓から起る痛みが，胸壁から上肢の下面で感じられ，尿路結石の痛みが鼠径部で感じられる。イギリスの神経学者 H.ヘッド (1861～1940) が研究した関連痛は，ヘッド帯として診断に広く利用されている。内臓からの刺激が内臓感覚線維を経て交感神経細胞にいたり，体壁の感覚線維が鋭敏になるために生じる現象といわれている。
