Japanese: 新羅写経 - しらぎしゃきょう

The oldest surviving manuscript of a sutra in Korea, these are the remains of a new translation of the 80-volume Avatamsaka Sutra. Two scrolls have been discovered, but one has solidified and cannot be opened. According to the other scroll, volumes 44 to 50 were copied in ink onto a blank sheet of paper measuring 29 cm wide and 14 m long, and wound around a red wooden shaft decorated with crystal on both ends. As the first few scrolls are missing, it is not possible to know for sure, but it is assumed that originally ten volumes were copied onto each scroll, making it a total of eight scrolls. Two pieces of sutra paintings in gold and silver ink have also been discovered along with the two scrolls, and are presumed to be the cover paintings at the beginning of the scrolls.

朝鮮における現存最古の写経で，《大方広仏華厳経》新訳80巻の写経残簡。2軸発見されているが，1軸は凝固していて開くことができない。他の1軸によると，幅29cm，長さ14mの白紙に，巻四十四から巻五十までが墨書筆写され，両端を水晶で飾った赤色木軸に巻かれている。巻首数巻が欠落しているので確かなことはわからないが，本来は1軸に10巻ずつ筆写され，合計8軸より成っていたと推測される。また写経2軸とともに金銀泥の経画2片も伝えられており，巻頭の表装画と推定されている。
