Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. A painter of the Kano school during the Muromachi and Azuchi-Momoyama periods. Although several works bearing the "Hideyori" seal remain, much is unclear about his background. There are two theories: that he was the second son of Kano Motonobu and died before Motonobu (Honcho Gashi), and that he was Motonobu's grandson, Shinsho. However, he painted the "Sacred Horse Picture Frame" (owned by Kamo Shrine, Shimane Prefecture), which is dated 1569 (Eiroku 12), and there is no doubt that he was active until after Motonobu's death, making him highly likely to be Motonobu's grandson. One of his representative works is the "Takao View of Maple Trees Folding Screen" (owned by Tokyo National Museum), one of the greatest masterpieces of genre painting from the early modern period. <References> Tsuji Tsuneo, "A Study of Kano Hideyori" (Kokuka, No. 986) (Satoru Sakakibara) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
