Of the three Atlas Mountains that run east to west through Morocco, this is the highest peak in the High Atlas Mountains, which runs through the center, with an elevation of 4,165m. It is also the highest peak in North Africa. The mountain has a steep shape, and cirques can be seen above 3,700m. It has been designated a national park since 1941, and skiing is possible in winter.
