A city in southwestern Rajasthan, western India. A railway junction and a distribution center for wheat and cotton. It produces ivory carvings, iron and brass vessels, lacquerware, etc. Founded in 1459 during the Rajput Kingdom. From 1818 to 1949, it was the capital of the Jodhpur princely state. The city is surrounded by a wall. It has a university (established in 1962).
