The origins of Andorra are unclear. In 819, the Frankish Kingdom, which had ruled until then, ceded sovereignty to the Spanish Bishop of Urgel, and the Cambuet family, who became vassals of the bishop, were then conditionally entrusted with governing the country (1110). However, in the 13th century, the House of Fora, who succeeded the Cambuet family, ignored the bishop's wishes and governed the country, which led to conflict between the two families.
