Polypodium is a genus of evergreen perennial ferns in the Polypodiaceae family. It is a large plant native to tropical America, and is sometimes considered to be in the same genus as Polypodium . There are two species, both of which are cultivated in greenhouses for decorative purposes. The rhizome is thick and creeping, covered with large, yellowish-brown, lanceolate, bushy scales. The petiole is long, reaching 1m. The leaf blade is deeply pinnately lobed, the lobes are entire and irregularly wavy, and the underside of the leaf is powdery white. The veins are intricately connected in a mesh pattern, with a few outward-facing free veins. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
