Lyric Pieces - Lyric Pieces

Muro Saisei's second collection of poems. Published by Kanjōshisha in 1918 (Taishō 7). The poems contained in this collection were published earlier than his first collection, Ai no Shishu (Poetry of Love), and were published over a period of two or three years from the autumn of 1912, during the early days of Saisei the poet. Parts one and two are mainly lyric poems written in classical language that express the feelings of someone aspiring to become a poet amidst hardship in his hometown of Kanazawa, and include the famous "Small Scary Feelings" ("My Hometown is Far Away and I Think of It") and "Lonely Spring". Part three was written in Tokyo, and contains some spiritual-seeking elements that are reminiscent of Ai no Shishu (Poetry of Love), as well as a mixture of colloquial language.

His close friend, Hagiwara Sakutaro, called this collection of poems the only beautiful collection of lyric short pieces in Japan since Kitahara Hakushu's "Omoide."
