The Akhdar Mountains (al-Jabal al-Akhḍal, 500-600m above sea level), which run along a peninsula jutting out into northern Cyrenaica on the eastern side of the Gulf of Sidra, are a forested area with an average annual rainfall of 400-500mm in the highlands, where wheat, olives, and other crops are cultivated and where cattle and goats are pastured.
