Italian painter. One of the leading Florentine painters of the first half of the 14th century. A younger contemporary of Giotto, he softened Giotto's solemn style with the grace and lightness of the Sienese school. He was active in Florence from 1312 to 1345. The most famous work attributed to him is the frescoes on the walls of the Basilica of Santa Croce.
