The fourth King of the House of Hanover (reigned 1820-1830). Eldest son of George III. He exacerbated his father's mental illness by marrying a Catholic woman and spending a lot of money on a villa in Brighton. He married Princess Caroline of Brunswick in 1795, but attempted a divorce, leading to constant scandals and making him extremely unpopular with the people. He became regent in 1810, but played a part in the decline of the king's authority by opposing the passage of the Catholic Emancipation Bill (1829).

英国，ハノーバー朝４代目の国王（在位1820年−1830年)。ジョージ３世の長男。カトリック教徒の婦人と結婚したり，ブライトンの離宮に大金をつぎ込んだりして父の精神病をさらに悪化させ，1795年にブランズウイックのキャロライン王女と結婚したが，離婚をはかったりして醜聞はたえず，国民からはきわめて不評であった。1810年摂政になって統治にのりだしたが，カトリック教徒解放法案の成立(1829年）に反対するなど，国王の権威の失墜に一役買った。
