National Land Afforestation

Japanese: 国土緑化 - こくどりょっか（英語表記）nationalland afforestation

The Forest Protection League was formed in 1947 and the movement began with the aim of covering the barren land with vibrant greenery. In 1950, the National Land Greening Promotion Committee was established, and the Green Feather fundraiser, school tree-planting competition, and first national tree-planting festival also began that same year. These events are still held annually today, and the National Tree-Planting Festival began in 1977. The greening movement to cover the land in greenery is now expanding on a global scale. There is a growing recognition that the reforestation movement in the desert areas stretching from the Middle East to China, and the greening movement in Southeast Asia to restore forests devastated by deforestation and slash-and-burn agriculture, are necessary for world peace and development.

荒れた国土を生き生きした緑で包むことで，1947年森林愛護連盟が結成され，その運動がスタートした。50年には国土緑化推進委員会が設立され，〈緑の羽根〉募金，学校植林コンクール，第1回全国植樹祭もこの年に始まった。これらは現在も年中行事として続けられ，77年からは全国育樹祭も始まった。国土を緑で包む緑化運動は現在では世界的な規模で拡大しつつある。中近東から中国にかけて広がる砂漠地帯での森林造成運動，乱伐や焼畑によって荒廃した林地を復旧する東南アジアでの緑化運動は，世界の平和と発展のために必要であるとの認識も広まっている。
