A vehicle used to transport ores, rocks, etc. in mines. Those used to transport coal are also called coal cars. There used to be wooden cars, but nowadays most are made of steel. There are two types of steel cars: round-bottomed and square-bottomed, with standard capacities of 1.0-2.5 cubic meters for round-bottomed cars and 0.6-1.0 cubic meters for square-bottomed cars, but as the volume of transportation inside the mine has increased, large ore cars with a capacity of 2-5 tons are also being used. The wheels and axles of the cars use ball or roller bearings, and the couplers are manual, consisting of links, double chains with shackles, and connecting pins. Several or even a dozen or so mine cars are coupled together and transported by a locomotive or winch, so various safety devices have been devised to prevent accidents caused by the couplers coming loose. Mine cars are loaded by manual shoveling or automatically by conveyors or hoppers, while loading and unloading is done by tiplers or by Granby or dump trucks that open the bottom or sides of the mine cars. Mine cars consisting of only a frame and wheels are called bogies, and are used to transport special objects such as machinery and timber. Vehicles equipped with chair seats and designed exclusively for transporting personnel are called mancars, and are available for use in horizontal tunnels and inclined tunnels, and are operated at scheduled times.
