(1) A movement proposed by Prime Minister Hatoyama in 1955 to improve everyday life through one's own creativity and good sense. In 1956, the New Life Movement Association was established as a foundation, with branches in every prefecture, with the goal of realizing a more democratic, rational, and cultural lifestyle. Since the 1960s, emphasis has been placed on community building and life schools, and other forms of movement led by local residents. (2) A social movement started by Chiang Kai-shek in China in 1934, with the goal of disciplined, organized, and militarized national life, and establishing a system of total mobilization throughout the country. The Kuomintang army and Kuomintang organizations formed the core of the movement, and it had strong aspects of a fascist movement aimed at preventing the infiltration of the Chinese Communist Party.
