A former town in the northern part of Yazu District, in eastern Tottori Prefecture. The main settlement is at the confluence of the Hiketa River and the Hatto River, tributaries of the Sendai River, and developed as a river crossing settlement. Ayu fishing is popular here, and the area is rich in Nijisseiki pears, oysters, and shiitake mushrooms. The intake for the Oide River irrigation canal is located on the west bank of the Chiyo River. The Inbi Line runs through the area. In November 2004, it was incorporated into Tottori City along with Kokufu Town and Fukube Village in Iwami District, Mochigase Town and Saji Village in Yazu District, and Kedaka Town, Shikano Town, and Aoya Town in Kedaka District. 83.62 km2 . 8,522 people (2003). 鳥取県東部,八頭(やず)郡北部の旧町。主集落は千代(せんだい)川の支流曳田(ひけた)川と八東(はっとう)川の合流点にあり,渡河集落として発達。アユ漁が盛んで,二十世紀ナシ,カキ,シイタケを多産する。千代川西岸には大井手(おおいで)川用水の取水口がある。因美線が通じる。2004年11月岩美郡国府町,福部村,八頭郡用瀬町,佐治村,気高郡気高町,鹿野町,青谷町と鳥取市へ編入。83.62km2。8522人(2003)。
