A standard Japanese-style fishing boat without a fence, in the Meiji period it was given a Western structure and its sails were also Westernized, improving its performance. 〘名〙① 江戸時代、北陸地方から東北地方にかけて、タラ、タイ、イカ、ニシンなどの沖合漁業に従事した比較的大型の漁船。小廻しの廻船としても使われた。越前川崎、越後川崎などと国名を冠して呼ぶことが多い。垣立(かきたつ)を設けない標準的な日本型漁船だが、明治時代には洋式構造を加え、帆装も洋式化して性能が向上。〔金浦村役猟舟方御役目録(1671)〕② 蟹工船に付属する発動機付小型漁船の呼称。底刺網の敷設、引揚げに従事。※蟹工船(1929)〈小林多喜二〉二「蟹工船には川崎船を八隻のせていた」
