A sacred and secret Aboriginal ritual, often accompanied by music, dance and theatrical acts. Some are more playful than sacred, and are called gunborg or ninji-ninji by some. Dances were performed at night, accompanied by singing, the sounds of boomerangs and wooden sticks, the blowing of didgeridoo (a type of wooden wind instrument), sibilant sounds, and the shouts of the dancers. The themes performed symbolized traditional or recent everyday events (such as the ecology of plants and animals, the movement of natural phenomena, fighting, sexual acts and practical jokes, interest in or resistance to white culture, etc.), and were excellent folklore.
