1875‐1948 A politician in Imperial Russia and owner of a large textile factory. The Konovalov family, like the Morozovs, are a representative Russian ethnic bourgeoisie whose ancestors paid their own way from serf status to merchant status and became successful in running cotton factories. Alexander received higher education in England, and became interested in politics. He organized the Progressive Party and became a member of the Fourth Duma. He is said to have formed a Masonic-style secret society with Kerensky and others in an attempt to unite party members for democratic reform in Russia.
