Sensory receptors

Japanese: 感覚受容器 - かんかくじゅようき
Sensory receptors

...the phenomenon of consciousness caused by external and internal stimuli applied to the sense organs.
[Senses in philosophy]
As Buddhist terms, words such as eye consciousness, ear consciousness, nose consciousness, tongue consciousness, and body consciousness (the five organs that give rise to these are called the five roots) have been used since ancient times, but the word "kansaku" (sense) which collectively refers to them, first appeared in the Keio Reprint English-Japanese Bilingual Dictionary as a translation of "sensation." As everyday language, it has been used in Tsubouchi Shoyo's "Tosei Shosei Kishitsu" and other works, and in Nishida Kitaro's "Zen no Kenkyu" (A Study of Good), it is given a place as a philosophical term alongside "kankaku" (perception).
