(Antigone) [1] Daughter of Oedipus, the king of Thebes in Greek mythology. She wandered from place to place following her blind father. When she returned to Thebes, she was buried alive for breaking the law by burying her brother's body. [2] Greek tragedy. Written by Sophocles. First performed 442-441 BC. Depicts the tragic life of Antigone. [3] Play. One act. Written by Anouilh. Published in 1942. Performed in Paris under German occupation. Dramatizes the spirit of the Resistance.
