A former town in Toda County in north-central Miyagi Prefecture. The Tohoku Main Line runs through it. Rice fields spread across the lowlands, and farmland is irrigated in the hills. In addition to tobacco, pig farming is also practiced. Nakazawame Shell Mound (historic site) and the remains of the Kido Tile Kiln (historic site) are located here. In 2005, Kabukuri-numa and the surrounding rice fields were registered as a Ramsar wetland. In March 2006, Osaki merged with Furukawa City, Matsuyama Town, Sanbongi Town, and Kashimadai Town in Shida County, Iwadeyama Town in Tamatsukuri County, and Naruko Town to form a city, Osaki City. 宮城県中北部,遠田(とおだ)郡の旧町。東北本線が通じる。低地では水田が広がり丘陵地では畑地灌漑(かんがい)が行われる。タバコを産するほか,養豚も行われる。中沢目貝塚(史跡),木戸瓦窯跡(史跡)がある。2005年に蕪栗沼・周辺水田がラムサール条約登録湿地となる。2006年3月,古川市,志田郡松山町,三本木町,鹿島台町,玉造郡岩出山町,鳴子町と合併し市制,大崎市となる。65.59km2。1万3405人(2003)。
