Also called Nashitsubo. It was so named because pear trees were planted in the garden. It is one of the five buildings of the Imperial Palace. It is located south of Kiritsubo in the northeast corner. Here, Minamoto no Tsune, Ki no Tokifumi, Sakanoue no Nojo, Onakatomi no Yoshinobu, and Kiyohara no Motosuke compiled the Gosen Wakashu and interpreted the Man'yoshu, so these five men are called the "Five of Nashitsubo." 梨壺とも。庭にナシを植えたのでこの名がある。内裏(だいり)五舎の一つ。北東隅の桐壺の南にあたる。ここで源順・紀時文・坂上望城・大中臣能宣・清原元輔らが《後撰和歌集》の編纂(へんさん)と《万葉集》の訓釈を行ったことから,この5人を〈梨壺の五人〉と称する。
