…After World War II, in 1945, the orchestra was made state-run by Czechoslovakia and reorganized into a new organization that also included other performing groups and soloists. During that time, the chief conductors were Rafael Kubelik (1914-96), Karel Ančerl (1908-73), and Václav Neumann (1920-95), and during Ančerl's time (1950-68) the orchestra achieved the status of one of the world's leading symphony orchestras. About half of the pieces performed were Czechoslovakian works, and the orchestra was somewhat conservative when it came to contemporary foreign works. …
