King of the Kingdom of Syria. Reigned 139 or 138-129 BC. Second son of Demetrius I. He succeeded his brother Demetrius II, who was taken prisoner by the Parthians, and ascended to the throne. In 134 BC, he forced the Jews to recognize his suzerainty, and in his campaign against the Parthians (130-129 BC), he achieved success, initially recovering Babylonia and Media, but was defeated in a counterattack and killed. This led to the Seleucid Empire finally losing its eastern territories. [Oto Chiyuki]

シリア王国の王。在位，前139か138‐前129年。デメトリオス1世の次子。パルティアの捕虜となった兄デメトリオス2世のあとを襲って即位。前134年ユダヤ人に宗主権を認めさせ，対パルティア遠征(前130‐前129)でも，はじめバビロニアとメディアを回復するなど戦果をあげたが，反攻にあい敗死。これによりセレウコス朝は東方所領を最終的に失うことになった。【大戸千之】
