Guanaco - Guanaco (English spelling)

A member of the Mammalia class, Order Artiodactyla, Family Camelidae. It is found in South America, from Peru to Patagonia in Argentina, and lives in grasslands, semi-desert areas, and mountainous regions. Its body shape is similar to other species in the llama genus, but it is 1.5 meters long, 1 meter tall at the shoulder, 25 centimeters long at the tail, weighs 50 to 100 kilograms, and is covered in long, woolly hair. Its hair is dark yellowish brown on the upper side and white on the underside, and its face is blackish. It lives in small groups of one male and 4 to 10 females, and when danger approaches, it will run at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour. Its main diet is grass. Its gestation period is about 10 to 11 months, and it gives birth to one baby at a time. Its suckling period is about 3 months, and its lifespan is about 20 years.

哺乳(ほにゅう)綱偶蹄(ぐうてい)目ラクダ科の動物。南アメリカのペルーからアルゼンチンのパタゴニアまで分布し、草原や半砂漠地帯、山岳地帯に生息する。体形は同じラマ属の他種に似るが、体長1.5メートル、肩高1メートル、尾長25センチメートル、体重50～100キログラムで、羊毛状の長い毛で覆われている。体毛は体上面が暗黄褐色、下面が白色で、顔は黒っぽい。1頭の雄と4～10頭の雌で構成される小群をなしてすみ、危険が迫ると時速50キロメートルの速力で走る。草を主食にする。妊娠期間はおよそ10～11か月で、1産1子。哺乳期間は3か月ほどで、寿命は約20年である。
