This is a chronological compilation of Edo town ordinances over a 108-year period from 1648 to 1755 (Shoho 5 to Horeki 5), and also includes petitions and replies from town officials. The editor is unknown (one theory is that it was Okazaki Juzaemon, the former headman of Hon-Hatchobori). It was completed in 1778 (An'ei 7). The book's title is also known as "Shoho Roku," based on the era names of the period it contains. The original is unknown, and there are several handed down copies, with the number of volumes being variable. It is a basic historical resource on the city of Edo during the Edo period. It has been published as a book titled "Shoho Jiroku," in three volumes. [Tsuruoka Mieko] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
