…The beginning of modern international shooting sports was the first World Shooting Championships (with five countries participating) held in Lyon, France in 1897, and since then, the number of participating countries in the Olympics has been the second largest after track and field. The Union International des Federation, the predecessor of the current International Shooting Union (abbreviated as UIT), was founded in Zurich in 1907 as the international organization governing shooting sports, and became the parent organization of modern shooting sports. In Switzerland, an organized association was established in 1824, in Germany in 1861, and in France in 1870-1871. …
