A condition in which movement cannot be performed smoothly due to damage to the cerebellum and the brainstem and spinal cord, which are closely connected to it. When standing up, the body is unstable and swaying, so the feet are spread wide apart. When walking, the movements of the arms and legs are uncoordinated and the patient staggers with the legs apart, as if drunk (intoxicated gait). Also, when trying to reach something, the hand cannot reach it quickly, and it shakes jerkily (motor disorganization) or goes too far (metria). Repetitive movements such as pronation and supination of the hand are very awkward and take a long time (conversion movement disorder). Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
