...A machine that applies ink to a plate and presses it against paper to produce a printed matter. Depending on the type of plate, they are divided into letterpress printing machines that use relief plates, lithographic printing machines that use planographic plates, intaglio printing machines that use intaglio plates, and stencil printing machines for silk screen printing and mimeograph printing, but since planographic printing is almost always offset printing, it is safe to think of lithographic printing machines as offset printing machines. Also, based on the shape of the plate and the pressing mechanism, they are broadly divided into three types: flat-press presses that use a flat plate and apply pressure with a flat platen, circular-press presses that use a flat plate but apply pressure with a cylindrical impression cylinder, and rotary presses that use a round plate and apply pressure with a cylindrical impression cylinder.
