...Overlooking the San Gabriel Valley and the Los Angeles area to the south. The Mediterranean climate and many sunny days make Mount Wilson an observatory established by the Carnegie Institution for Science in 1904, which has contributed to astronomy with its 100-inch (254 cm) reflecting telescope. This observatory, together with Mount Palomar Observatory, is now collectively known as the Hale Observatory.
