A reading magazine for boys and girls. It was launched in the late 1920s as part of the Pioneer movement, a movement that saw the rise of Japan's youth worker-farmer associations, in order to indoctrinate and organize children in proletarian consciousness. The direct impetus was a proposal by Ino Shozo at the founding general meeting of the Japan Proletarian Writers League in February 1929, and the first issue was published in May of the same year as an appendix to Senki, the joint journal of the All-Japan Proletarian Art League and the Writers League. In addition to proletarian fairy tales and children's songs, the magazine also contained science books, current events, and letters to editors from children.
