[Born] Daoguang 16 (1836) [Died] 1903 A Chinese official in the late Qing Dynasty. A Manchu Zhengbai Bannerman. His surname was Guarjia (Guarijia). His courtesy name was Zhonghua. His posthumous name was Wenzhong. He was the nephew of Empress Dowager Cixi. He was appointed Chief of the Ministry of Works in 1871, and promoted to Minister of Works in 1872. In 1878, he became the Left Chief Censor of the Control Yuan and Minister of Works, but was dismissed due to illness at the end of the year. He later served as General of Xi'an (1991), Commander of the Infantry (1994), Minister of War (1996), and Cooperative Grand Scholar, and was active in the construction of the new army. In 1891, he was appointed Grand Scholar of Wenyuange, Minister of Military Affairs, and Governor of Zhili, and played an important role as a close aide to Empress Dowager Cixi.
