Reduplication - Funnel

Japanese: 畳語 - じょうご
Reduplication - Funnel

Compound words in which the same morpheme is used multiple times. There are those in which the whole word is repeated, such as "sarasara" (smooth), and those in which only a part is repeated, such as "karugarashii" (light and airy). The meanings vary depending on the situation, but they can be divided into several types.

(1) Plural people, trees, mountains
(2) Repetition: Repeatedly, one after another, and at random
(3) Emphasis: All over, all over the place, looking at it
(4) Indefinite: Who, what, what?
(5) Onomatopoeia and mimetic words: Kirakira, Shizushizu, Gorogoro, Yareyare. Of these, (1) to (4) are basically understood to indicate plurals. (5) is a kind of emphasis, which is also common in baby talk.
