A feudal lord of the early modern period. Born in Settsu Province. Nakagawa Kiyohide served Oda Nobunaga and was granted a fief of 40,400 koku. His son Hidemasa held Miki in Harima. In 1594 (Bunroku 3), Hidenari was transferred to Bungo Oka with a fief of 70,400 koku under Toyotomi Hideyoshi. From the Battle of Sekigahara, he came under Tokugawa Ieyasu's control and was confirmed in his fief. From then on, the Nakagawa clan continued to own Oka (Oka Domain) until the end of the Edo period. The head of the family was appointed Shuri-no-daifu (Junior Fifth Rank) or Naizen-no-sho (Uchizen-no-sho), among other positions. After the Meiji Restoration, he became a count. 近世大名。摂津国の出身。中川清秀は織田信長に仕え,4万0400石を知行。その子秀政は播磨三木を領有する。1594年(文禄3)秀成は豊臣秀吉の下で豊後岡7万0400石に移封。関ヶ原の戦のときより徳川家康に属し,領知を安堵される。以後幕末に至るまで中川氏の岡領有が続いた(岡藩)。当主は従五位下修理大夫または内膳正などに叙任された。維新後は伯爵。【大森 映子】
