Digestive tract
〘Noun〙 A general term for the tubes that animals use to digest and absorb the food they ingest. In higher animals, the tube is open at both ends and continues from the mouth to the anus, but in lower species, the mouth and anus are sometimes the same. In mammals, the tube is broadly divided into the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus. *Underwater City (1952) by Kobo Abe: "His digestive tract meows brazenly like a cat."
